Call to Worship from Psalm 146

Refrain from #119 -- Hope is a star - verse 3

Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. R - Joy is a song that welcomes the dawn, telling the world that the Saviour is born.

The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; R - When God is a child there's joy in our song.

he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD! R - The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong, and none shall be afraid.

Advent Reading

Reader 1: Our souls magnify the Lord! Our souls rejoice in God, our Saviour!

Reader 2: Waters shall break forth with joy in the wilderness. There will be streams in the desert! People: But we see the wilderness suffer. Rivers flood; fires rage. How can we feel joy when the world knows such sorrow?

Reader 1: In times of suffering, Jesus asks us to shine with pure, clear light. We light the candle of joy to brighten the world, to lift up the lowly and fill the hungry with good things.

The candle is lit.

All: Come, Lord Jesus, and kindle joy in our lives. Shine in our lives whenever we feel discouraged, to strengthen our trust in you. Give us wisdom to respond to suffering with commitment sustained by joy. Let our faithfulness shine in the world you love. Amen.

Reader 2: As we wait for you, Jesus, we will shine with hope and work for peace with joyful hearts!

Praise Band # 3

Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

AMEN

PRAYER CHAIN:

Has Been moved to the main page under worship.

“Prayer is the link of the chain that connects us with God. It is the bridge that spans every gulf and bears us over every mountain of danger and need”.

If you would like a name to appear on the prayer chain, please tell Rev James or an Elder, either in person or in email. Each month, we will specifically read out all of the names, in worship, in prayer, on the last week of the month.
